Biografische context:
Solveig Stotijn-Egge (1909–1997) werd geboren in Bergen (Noorwegen) en studeerde psychologie in Oslo. Ze verhuisde naar Nederland en werkte als psychologe bij de psychiatrische inrichting Endegeest in Oegstgeest. Haar echtgenoot, Han Stotijn, was daar onderdirecteur. In 1952 promoveerde zij aan de Rijksuniversiteit Leiden met het hier aangeboden proefschrift. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog hield zij dagboeken bij over het dagelijks leven in Nederland, die postuum zijn gepubliceerd.
