In the process of compiling the material presented here, theory, dogma, tradition, and controversy have been tested, debated, and analyzed in the interest of presenting a lucid and practical work for the teacher of music, in order that he may be aided in raising the accepted standards of flute pedagogy and performance.
Where the merits of two controversial opinions are relatively balanced, the various points are discussed in the necessary detail to enable the teacher or student to choose for himself the approach best suited to his particular need. Where opinions are relatively unchallenged, unnecessarily detailed discussion is avoided.
The first three sections of the book are presented progressively, according to the expected needs of the average student. Where further information is desired regarding less usual problems of progress, the reader will find of assistance the various detailed sections of the Appendix.
