Lady Constance Georgina Bulwer-Lytton was de kleindochter van de romanschrijver Edward Bulwer-Lytton. Ze verwierp haar achtergrond volledig en sloot zich aan bij de WSPU. Lytton werd regelmatig gearresteerd, maar door haar familienaam kreeg ze een voorkeursbehandeling. Zo werd ze niet gedwongen gevoed toen ze in hongerstaking ging en werd ze al vrij snel weer vrijgelaten. Maar toen ze onder de schuilnaam ‘Jane Warton’ naar Liverpool ging en onder die naam weer werd gearresteerd, was de behandeling slechter en kreeg ze wel gedwongen voeding. De gevangenschap trok een blijvende wissel op haar gezondheid.

Lady Constance Georgina Bulwer-Lytton was the granddaughter of the novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton. She rejected her background and became a member of the WSPU. She was arrested regularly, but her familyname earned her preferential treatment and privileges. She was not force-fed when she went on hunger strike and released fairly quickly. But when she went to Liverpool under the alias “Jane Warton”, she was arrested again and treated worse, she was force-fed and her imprisonment took a lasting toll on her health.
