The basic premise underlying the crisis‑intervention approach is that the successful resolution of even one major immediate problem can lead to the re‑establishment of the patient’s psychological equilibrium. Moss’s case studies demonstrate the techniques of hypnosymbolic psychotherapy and the dramatic results possible. Of the case studies reported, Osgood remarks in his foreword that “clinical sensitivities and insights are combined with quantitative measurements of meaning… Moss contributes significantly to the theory of meaning as well as to the practice of psychotherapy.”
