An illustrated postumous publication of Sluiters’ two greatest poems, praising the outdoor life, and his last songs, addressed to his flock at Eibergen (he was a protestant minister).
To the engravings that had also been used to illustrate earlier editions of Sluiters' poems, smaller versions of illustrations used in Jacob Cats’ Silenus Alcibiadis (1618) have been added. Also quotations of Cats and the poet Abraham Bógaert are included.
The publisher explains in his preface that he was encouraged by his great personal appreciation of Sluiter, whom he had met in 1665 in the house of his cousin, the colleague publisher Hieronymus Sweerts.
