First Dutch edition of this collection of sermons, translated from Heilsames Gemisch Gemasch, first published in 1704 in Nürnberg and Würzburg by H. Hertz for Chr. Weigel, in a small 4to edition with 50 engravings by Weigel after C. Luiken.
Abraham van Sancta Clara is the monastic name of Johann Ulrich Megerle (1644-1709), an Austrian Augustinian monk, who was appointed court preacher by Emperor Leopold I in 1677. At the time he was famous for his sermons, many of which appeared in print. Frederik Muller, in his catalogue Popular Prose Writers, states Megerle's sermons are so entertaining that 'his works are still read today.' (1893).
Also in 1718 an identical edition appeared at Wed. Wolters & Pauli, Amsterdam.
