Recensie: I highly recommend this book for young people. It dealt with very timely issues for the period in which it was written, the threat of nuclear war and racial prejudices. It follows the activities of Cassie, the protagonist, who is concerned about these issues, so she organizes a group of friends in her age group to help raise awareness in the larger community. The book has a message that even if you are very young, you can still do things to make a difference in the world. Through her work with the group, she meets people of many different ethnicities, and learns about their cultures and customs. At the same time, she deals with all the personal issues of a person her age, including her budding attraction to a boy her age. Later in the book, her political activism receives opposition because some people in the community are making a lot of money from building weapons for the military.
The characters in the story are well-rounded, and interact with each other in an interesting and entertaining way. They show how political issues affect people in their personal lives. I think it is a good book for getting young people interested in politics and activism.
