Israel Albert Horowitz (1907-1973) was an American international chess master. He is most remembered today for the books he wrote on chess. In 1989 he was inducted into the American Chess Hall of Fame.

Fred Reinfeld (1910-1964) was an American writer on chess and many other topics. He was also a strong chess master, often one of the top ten American players from the early 1930s to the early 1940s, as well as a college chess instructor.
Robert Byrne (1928-2013) was an American chess player. In 1960, he won the U.S. Open Championship. to his name and in 1964 he became a FIDE grandmaster. In 1965, Byrne defeated Bobby Fischer at the US Championships. Byrne died at the age of 84 after a long illness.

Robert Graham Wade (1921–2008), known as Bob Wade, was a New Zealand and English chess player, writer, arbiter, coach, and promoter. He was New Zealand champion three times, British champion twice, and played in seven Chess Olympiads and one Interzonal tournament.
