The Hague, Vereeniging: Experimenteel Tooneel Wij Nu, (1925), brochure, 29,2x42,5 cm., printed in black and red.1925, Piet Zwart, One page large folio two sides printed, 2 pages on recto and 2 pages on verso, folded, includes the original membership application card, design by Piet Zwart (28 May 1885 - 24 September 1977) who was a Dutch photographer, typographer, and industrial designer.From 1919, while continuing to work as an independent designer, he began teaching at the Rotterdam Academy of Visual Arts, now the Willem de Kooning Academy.[3] He was dismissed in 1933 because of what were considered his radical ideas on education. Zwart's ideas were similar to those of the Bauhaus art school in Germany, where, in 1929, he gave a series of guest lectures.Zwart was a member of Nederlandsche Vereeniging voor Ambachts- en Nijverheidskunst (V.A.N.K.) the Dutch Association for Craft and Craft Art. "Zwart was able to manipulate the oblique perspective in such a way that space was not only activated but made to seem irrational in order to heighten the viewer's experience of what would otherwise have been an ordinary rectangular room"(source Wikipedia). Names mentioned in this brochure: Simon Koster, Gerard Rutten, Dim Couvée, Albert van Dalsum, Vilmos Huszar, Else Mauhs, J.J.P. Oud, jhr. W.F.A. Roëll, Rob. de Roos en Piet Zwart. This group of artists arose out of the periodical "Spel en dans" and they asked for attention to avant garde art and theatre. "With his 1925 card and envelope designs for the experimental theater group in The Hague Wij Nu (We Now), Zwart briefly reverted to his Dada phase with a profuse use of assorted kinds and sizes of typefaces and symbols" (Purvis p.75). "Uit de tweekleurige reclamefolder voor de vereniging van experimenteel toneel Wij Nu blijkt, dat ook Zwart niet afkerig was van het opvullen van het vlak met teksten, lijnen en balken, maar tegelijkertijd ontwikkelde hij, bij zijn regelmatige ontwerpen voor de puur typografische advertenties voor de Nederlandse Kabelfabriek, de vaardigheid om een grotere visuele spanning te creëren tussen het witte onbedrukte vlak en de toegepaste typografische bestanddelen" (Broos/ Hefting p.67). Excellent copy, folded, unused. Similar version sold at Zwiggelaar Auctions (29) for 9.400 euro excluding auction costs and VAT.
