Francis Bacon, 1st Viscount St Albans (22 January 1561 – 9 April 1626), known as Lord Verulam between 1618 and 1621, was an English philosopher and statesman who served as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor of England under King James I. Bacon led the advancement of both natural philosophy and the scientific method and his works remained influential even in the late stages of the Scientific Revolution.
Bacon has been called the father of empiricism. He argued for the possibility of scientific knowledge based only upon inductive reasoning and careful observation of events in nature. He believed that science could be achieved by the use of a sceptical and methodical approach whereby scientists aim to avoid misleading themselves. Although his most specific proposals about such a method, the Baconian method, did not have long-lasting influence, the general idea of the importance and possibility of a sceptical methodology makes Bacon one of the later founders of the scientific method. His portion of the method based in scepticism was a new rhetorical and theoretical framework for science, whose practical details are still central to debates on science and methodology. He is famous for his role in the scientific revolution, begun during the Middle Ages, promoting scientific experimentation as a way of glorifying God and fulfilling scripture.
Bacon was a patron of libraries and developed a system for cataloguing books under three categories – history, poetry and history.
Bacon was educated at Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, where he rigorously followed the medieval curriculum, which was presented largely in Latin. He was the first recipient of the Queen's counsel designation, conferred in 1597 when Elizabeth I reserved him as her legal advisor. After the accession of James I in 1603, Bacon was knighted, then created Baron Verulam in 1618] and Viscount St Alban in 1621.He had no heirs and so both titles became extinct on his death of pneumonia in 1626 at the age of 65. He is buried at St Michael's Church, St Albans, Hertfordshire.
Francis Bacon often gathered with the men at Gray's Inn to discuss politics and philosophy, and to try out various theatrical scenes that he admitted writing. Bacon's alleged connection to the Rosicrucians and the Freemasons has been widely discussed by authors and scholars in many books. However, others, including Daphne du Maurier in her biography of Bacon, have argued that there is no substantive evidence to support claims of involvement with the Rosicrucians. Frances Yates does not make the claim that Bacon was a Rosicrucian, but presents evidence that he was nevertheless involved in some of the more closed intellectual movements of his day. She argues that Bacon's movement for the advancement of learning was closely connected with the German Rosicrucian movement, while Bacon's New Atlantis portrays a land ruled by Rosicrucians. He apparently saw his own movement for the advancement of learning to be in conformity with Rosicrucian ideals.

Habent sua fata libelli. Boeken hebben hun eigen lot. Ze gaan hun weg door de tijd en veranderen steeds weer van bezitter. Zo verspreiden ze hun kennis. Het is belangrijk dat zij niet verloren gaan en hun waarde kunnen behouden. Bovendien maken ze van alles mee, omdat ze steeds weer van plaats veranderen. Het zijn echte tijdreizigers met hun eigen verhaal. Het woord "fata" is afgeleid van het woord "fari ", dat spreken betekent. De bezitter spreekt het lot over hen uit, maar zij spreken ook voor zichzelf.
De boeken zijn afkomstig uit mijn eigen bibliotheek en maken weer plaats voor nieuwe.
De staat van de boeken heb ik geprobeerd zo goed mogelijk te beschrijven, maar er kunnen geen rechten aan ontleend worden. Het zijn alle gebruikte boeken.
Ik verkoop mijn boeken als particulier en kan ze daarom niet retour nemen. Maar ik hoop dat u er net zoveel plezier aan beleeft als ik gedaan heb. Ik stuur bericht, zodra ik het pakketje heb afgegeven en vermeld daarbij ook, indien van toepassing, de verzendcode, zodat u het pakketje kunt volgen. Naast verzending is het ook mogelijk de door u bestelde boeken af te halen. Daarvoor maken we dan een afspraak. Tevens bied ik u de mogelijkheid om boeken te ruilen tegen titels op het gebied van de Klassieke Talen (in het bijzonder de klassiek Griekse filosofie) en de Klassieke Oudheid, mijn eigen vakgebied. Ik geef niet alleen boeken door, maar ontvang ze ook graag. Over de tegenwaarde worden we het ongetwijfeld eens!
Ik verzend mijn boeken via Postnl of DHL. U kunt uw boeken bij u thuis laten bezorgen als brievenbuspakje (bij kleiner formaat) of pakketje. U kunt er ook voor kiezen uw boeken te laten bezorgen bij een afleverpunt van Postnl of DHL. De verzendkosten van DHL liggen iets lager dan van Postnl. Bezorging bij een afleverpunt is weer goedkoper dan thuis laten bezorgen.
Ik realiseer me dat de verzendkosten hoog zijn in relatie tot de prijs van een boek. Het zijn echter de geldende tarieven die ik ook moet betalen. Vanwege de hoge verzendkosten probeer ik de prijzen van mijn boeken relatief laag te houden. Bovendien worden de verzendkosten gereduceerd, indien u meer dan 1 boek bestelt. Bij ieder extra boek dat u bestelt binnen één bestelling verlaag ik de verzendkosten telkens met 1 euro, ongeacht de prijs van het boek. Dus, als u bv. 2 boeken extra bestelt, worden de verzendkosten met 2 euro verlaagd. Let wel, dit geldt alleen voor pakketpost tot 10kg binnen Nederland en binnen één zending. De korting betreft uitsluitend de verzendkosten en kan dus maximaal uitkomen op gratis verzending.
Voor verzendingen naar het buitenland zijn verzendbedrijf en verzendkosten in overleg.
