Iets uit de inhoud van deze studie.
'Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) is probably, more than any other painter in the history of art, a painter's painter or a painter for those who particularly love painting. From Gauguin to Picasso, Matisse to Paul Klee, Braque to Kandinsky or Masrcel Duchamp to Jasper Johns, all looked to C´´zanne, as he was not just "the father of us all" (Picasso) or "the master par excellence" (Klee), but a spiritual model who was the very incarnation of the solitary artist who restored, through forms, "a soul" to painting (Kandinskty).
Through the works selected for this monograph, we canb trace the main stylistic developments in Cézanne's work, from the dark and violent canvases of his early days and his later luminous paintings close to the style of the Impressionists to the works of his Constructivist period and his nature paintings in which his obsession with particular themes (Bathers, the Mont Sainte-Victoire, etc.) and his tireless search for perfection are especially evident'.
