The annual is divided into ten sections, covering the nine countries where first-class cricket was played during the twelve month period, and the two one-day international tournaments played in Sharjah. There is full coverage of Test matches and on-day internationals played everywhere in the world, with particular emphasis on England's triple triumph in Australia. There is a complete record of all domestic competitions from the Quaid-e-Azam and Patron's Trophy in Pakistan to the reduced Shell Shield in West Indies, from the Currie Cup in South Africa to the Ranji Trophy in India, from the Sheffield Shield in Australia to the Shell Trophy in New Zealand where Martin Crowe established new records. First-class cricket in England with its four major competitions is fully documented, and there are full first-class averages from every country, a feature unique among cricket annuals.
As in previous editions, 'Benson and Hedges Cricket Year' is extensively illustrated with colour and black and white photographs so that the book is three dimensional, providing a pictorial, statistical and narrative record of the year. The photographs are by the leading cricket photographers of our time - Adrian Murrell, Ken Kelly George Herringshaw, David Munden, Patrick Eagar and many others.
