US name, address and date (April 4, 1988) with ballpoint pen on front flyleaf. The republic of San Serriffe, made up of two idyllic islands, was brought to light by a publication in The Guardian in 1977. It was one of the most successful April's Fool jokes in British history. In the pre-internet era, it wasn't easy for those who don't know exactly what Sans Serif means to 'look something up'. The Republic generated many offspins of all kinds, of which this book is one of the nicest: a proof of a silver coin of 28 grams of .999 silver, executed in 500 numbered copies. 350 of them were captured in this book which is filled with the semi-fictional history of its creation with reference to the Puffin, the coin of the 'king of Lundy Island' from 1929. Also with two proofs of notes and a model of a note of 1000 shares in the Bird & Bull Press itself, and a history and bibliography of the Bird & Bull Press. All in all, this book is a monument to pre-Internet fun.
