The Amsterdammer is always 'now', is always of this hour, this day, this year, this century, but his environment, his living space, is an accumulation of ages. Each age adds something, a new feature, be it a smile of a grimace, to his city's face. With each new generation his city undergoes a smaller of larger metamorphosis, a plastic surgery operation - an yet remains itself.
Old cells die and fall away, new cells develop and join the body of the city. Slowly the new becomes integrated with the old, becomes one with it, an indespensable part of it.... until it is dispensed with in its turn.
The Amsterdammer drinks his glass of beer in the same café as his grandfather drank his. He boards the tram his father once boarded. He works at a lathe twenty feet above the football field he played on as a boy. He casts his float in what is destined to become his son's bedroom.
Amsterdam is a living city, but it is also a mature city. And maturity connot exist without youth, without the past. It is simply a matter of learning, over and over again, to live with that past.

Boeken worden standaard naar het huisadres gezonden, wilt u liever afhalen bij een parcelshop, dan dit graag bij de bestelling aangeven. Meerdere boeken ineens kopen scheelt verzendkosten.
De verzendkosten naar België bedragen € 7,00 thuisbezorgd.
Verzendkosten naar andere landen zijn op aanvraag.
Retourneren is mogelijk binnen 14 dagen. Retourkosten zijn voor eigen rekening.
