The Nederlands Dans Theater does not distinguish between corps de ballet, soloists and principals. The company has an equal number of men and women and every dancer must be able and willing to perform solo parts as well as ensemble parts. The Nederlands Dans Theater receives enthusiastic acclaim not only from audiences in their own Lucent Danstheater in The Hague but also on the world stage.
Photographer Dirk Buwalda has been capturing unique moments in dance with his camera at the Nederlands Dans Theater since 1992. He followed the dancers during their many rehearsals and performances. The resulting book is about hard work, about drama and beauty, about pain and the struggle against gravity. It is about the work of some of the best dancers in the world.
