Lione Pascoli (1674-1754) was an Italian economist, lawyer, author and well-known art collector. In economic theory, Pascoli "promulgated a mix of protectionism and mercantilism, proposing the abolition of internal tariffs on agricultural products, and ban on the export of raw commodities and importation of manufactured goods" (Wikipedia). This book, in Italian, exposes his economic theories.Interesting provenance: the front pastedown carries a notice reading: 'Abate GIOVACHINO MUGNOZ Spagnuolo donò alla Commune di Bologna 1844. Tom. [ink-written] 3943' with stamped 'Duplicato'. Inscribed in pencil also '2/6' (price?), 'H.' and in dark red 'G.L. 67'. Additional information in Italian on "Muñoz, Gioacchino (Malaga 1777 - Bologna 1847): Sacerdote spagnolo, ma naturalizzato bolognese, Gioacchino Muñoz, o Mugnoz secondo la grafia dell'epoca, fu bibliofilo, appassionato della storia e della cultura iberica la cui conoscenza voleva diffondere fra gli italiani. Lasciò per testamento all'Archiginnasio di Bologna la sua biblioteca composta da 11.730 volumi, per la maggior parte miscellanee di carattere storico, religioso e letterario, sia manoscritte sia edite in un arco temporale che va dal XVII al XIX secolo, e una raccolta di ritratti." Coomee Rushtom Dantra, of Indian descent, was a lawyer at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was an assistant-prosecutor in the Tokyo War Tribunal (Huygens ING). On the title page is a small oval library stamp in red of 'University Library Cambridge - Acton Collection 1903', over-stamped in purple 'Duplicate U.L.C.' Lord Acton, Regius Professor of Modern History at Cambridge 1895-1902, among other things "was successful in buying up material from dispersed monastic libraries or duplicates from university libraries in Italy, Germany and Portugal" (Cambridge University Library - Acton Collection website). The present copy looks like one of these duplicates - until it was itself disposed of.
