This was the scene confronting the Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole when he addressed a meeting in Rhodesia after the publication of the first edition of this book. In this new edition, extensively revised by the author in prison, Mr. Sithole brings up to date what the chairman of the meeting had described as 'our nationalist Bible'.
Mr. Sithole was born of illiterate parents in a mud hut: today his name is known throughout the world as one of the Rhodesian African leaders. After an autobiographical introduction, in itself a reflection of the swiftness with which events in Africa are moving, he describes how African nationalism evolved naturally and inevitably from white domination and white supremacy. Its relationship to Pan-Africanism is discussed in detail. He pays tribute to the positive achievements of European civilization in Africa but points out the inconsistency of teaching democracy to Africans without extending it to them. He gives a personal account of the founding and life of the Rhodesian nationalist political movements and of events leading up to U.D.I.
