Amsterdam, Broer Jansz., 1640, 4to., marbled paper binding, [4]+119 pp., paper cover is worn along the edges and the spine, the bookblock is sewn well and still solid, the top right corners of the first signature are damaged, the other pages are intact, there is some waterdamage (especially in the first two signatures of the book) and there are some other stains (an ink stain on the fore edge for example and in the sky part of the engraving on page 6). The book is printed in a Gothic font and illustrated with 9 beautiful engravings (anonymous). There is a vignette on the titlepage, some beautiful initials and a lovely endpiece.l Very rare illustrated biography of the Prophet Muhammad/Mohammed/founder of islam. Second edition, previously published in 1627 and based on de Bry's "Acta Mehmeti" from 1597. The book also comprises the divinations of the Byzantine Emperors Leo and Severus about the fall of Constantinople. The engraved titlepage is missing in this copy.
