Underground comic book in b/w. Larry Gonick's The Cartoon History of the Universe is a monumental achievement in comic history. In the course of 30 years, Gonick produced about a thousand pages sketching the world's history in more or less chronological order. The first nine chapters were published in comic book form by the Rip Off Press. The series was continued by various publishers in various formats. Although humorous in nature and somewhat cartoony in style, the series is quite serious about the world's history, and the books were frequently used in university history classes.
