Quiroga, that Renaissance man who founded one of the first higher education institutions on the American continent, introduced new methods of education. He was outstanding as a social worker, and succeeded in integrating such aspects as health, agricultural and craft production, justice and community hospitality.
Vasco de Quiroga gained the recognition of the people of Michoacan, who granted him the maximum attribute, and which has survived for almost 500 years: the respectful title of "Tata".
