If you are interested in barrel organs, and who isn't, this is one of the definitive sources for your library. Barrel Organs are the descendents of the oldest church bells of the middle ages, when clocks had no faces and time was told by the chimes (our word "clock" comes from the german word Glocke, meaning bell). The original church bells had large wooden cylinders (barrels) with huge pins sticking out which struck levers attached to ropes that rang the bells high up. These large barrels eventually were adapted to use in reproducing music in organ devices, such as monkey organs and large orchestrions.
