Original Yiddish first edition of Nobel prize winner Singer. Original binding, spine a bit sunned, spine ends a bit worn, binding weak (webbing showing in front hinge). Very rare.

This is one of the books published by Israel London as part of the Der Kval Farlag series of books. London established Der Kval in Vienna in 1918 with Uriel Birnbaum as a Jewish avante garde publishing house. In the 1920s and 1930s London lived in Paris where he was a publisher and art dealer (including Marc Chagall). He escaped to Cuba when the Nazis invaded France. London moved to the United States after the Second World War and bought the Marstin Press in New York City. He befriended and sponsored Yiddish poets in New York in the 1950s and re-established the Der Kval publishing house in 1956. He published fourteen books under the Der Kval label beginning with Isaac Bashevis Singer's Mayn Tatn's Beis Din Shtub in 1956.
