Hundertwasser was born in Vienna on 15 december 1928. Today he is certainly the best-known artist in Austria. He is also the most controversial and notorious. His international reputation was already firmly established by the late 1960s, after a hectic career that had begun with a long and decisive stay in Paris, followed by a constant stream of exhibitions, lecture-manifestos and performace-happenings. His fame was then permanently consolidated by a world tour of his works through museums in the five continents, a planetary event guided, between 1975 and 1983, by the masterly touch of his impressario-manager Joram harel: "Austria shows Hundertwasser to the continents".
