Designed as a guide for the owner or buyer of an auxiliary sailing boat or a power craft, Power for Yachts examines the alternative types of power units available and the range of possible choices within each type. While specialized handbooks have been available for the do-it-yourself enthusiast, the person who is selecting the engine for a new boat, completing or converting a hull, re-engining an old boat, or simply trying to get the most efficient and economical performance from an existing propulsion system has been neglected. None of the decisions involved in these quite common situations can be made without an understanding of the distinctions between the different types of power units, the factors which determine the requirements of different boats, or the relationships between such elements as power, torque, speed, gearing, propeller size and fuel consumption.
