No 1 fought in Flanders and Mesopotamia, and its silver biplanes graced the golden age of the RAF in the 1930s. The Squadron played a vital role in the Battles of France and Britain, and successfully introduced the unique Harrier into front line service. No Royal Air Force unit has a history and lineage as distinguished as No 1 Squadron: it is fitting that the Squadron's motto should be In Omnibus Princeps — 'In All things First'.
